We have all been lied to since the beginning of time regarding washing your lashes. Yes, I said washing it— as in with water. Back when lash extensions first made their grand debut in the 20teens, we all were told that getting our lash extensions wet would be the death of us. We were also fed the lie that washing our lashes would make them fall out faster. This is the farthest from the truth and we are here to bust those myths.
Here at Huaka Lashes and Body, each guest receives a complimentary Huaka Luxury Aftercare Kit which includes a 60 mL bottle of Lash Shampoo and a mini lash brush every Full Set. The reason we do this is because washing your lash extensions is an integral part of keeping your eyes, extensions, and natural lashes healthy as well as boosting retention of your sets. You also have the option in upgrading to our Luxury Lash Wash Brush which has a longer stem and curve which enhances your experience tenfold.
Now let’s dive into why washing your lashes is fact, not fiction.
Heat and sweat are the ultimate enemy of your lash extensions. When sweat meets the lash extension adhesive, it deteriorates the adhesion between the natural lash and the lash extension. This process can cause premature fallout or damage if not washed in a timely manner. Open heat like ovens or flames quite frankly does more damage, as it will literally singe the tips of your extensions and make them into a slimy and clumpy goo. Trust us, this is not fun stuff. We have seen it all.
Things like super extreme heat, sweating, and oil-based makeup all contribute to the retention of your lash set. It is imperative to take the extra time to protect your investment through proper lash washing. To wash your lashes, simply pump one to two pumps of the Huaka Foam Lash Shampoo onto your wrist or on the provided lash brush. Then, you will dip the brush into the solution, apply the brush to the extensions and gently move the bristles through the lashes with eyes closed. Simply rinse with cool to lukewarm water after that and pat dry with a clean towel or washcloth. You have the option to use a fan to dry them. Further, using a silicone spoolie to brush through the extensions afterwards will bring back the optimal shape and direction.
We recommend to wash your lashes daily, in the morning and night if you have oily skin or have had a particularly sweaty day. It is also a great practice to bring your lash shampoo to the gym to wash them off after your workout. You may also bring it on vacations to ensure that your lashes are kept clean, particularly in alternating zones where humidity and climates change. Because the shampoo bottle is a foam bottle, it is recommended to place it in a plastic bag while travel to avoid any spills.
Historically, the cleaner your lash extensions are, the longer they will last. They are an investment and deserve to be treated as so. Do yourself a favor and WASH YOUR LASHES. You will thank us later.
